The Truth About My Platinum Hair

Going Platinum?

This is Cara Loren! She's one of my favorite bloggers!

Okay. So first off, I wanted to post this one because I get asked A LOT about how going platinum feels, the maintenance of it, and also the money it takes to keep it up.
Here is my journey/story with my silvery/ashy blonde hair:

Part One: The Natural Hair
In this picture I'm in New York at the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park. At the time, I actually quite enjoyed my natural dirty blonde hair. I had just been dyed back after a brown-dye gone wrong. However, I am a person who actually enjoys change, so my being content with my color was just a matter of time. The time in this case, was eight months.

Part Two: The Peanut Butter and Jelly Hair

At the time, I didn't have my nose piercing so I was looking for a way to be rebellious! I was too afraid to do the whole thing, so instead I just did the bottom layer and then a strip on top. (And yes, I am wearing a zebra onesie... no regrets there)
One day in class there was this guy who told me my hair looked like the inside of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I WAS MORTIFIED!
Something had to change! I had to fix it, and this is how I did (tried).

Part Three: The Cover-Up Hair

At this point I just wanted  hair that was all one color. So I decided to dye it a light brown. It was okay at first, but then it started to fade and the purple in my hair was still in it. This color probably lasted me about three months.

Part Four: The Second Attempt Cover-Up Hair
This time I dyed it a darker shade of brown to try to pull some more of the purple out of my hair, and still the purple was relentless. I was just about to give up when I stumbled upon a product called ColorOpps. So I gave it a go. Why not?

Part Five: The Do-It Yourself Hair
Well, I did make it back to blonde. I was happy that I did get the other dyes out of my hair. However, if you can't see it, I still had the purple in my hair. It was a faded pink color near the bottom of my hair. So I thought, I really need to bleach it, but I don't want to do it myself. This leads me into part five, the best part in my opinion.

Part Six: The Walk-of-Shame-to-the-Stylist Hair
I have to give kudos to my stylist Halee. She is one of the most patient people I know. Every time I go to her she tells me the same thing: DO NOT USE BOX DYES. PERIOD. This time, however, I really listened to her. You see, her and my hair have a history together. Every time I screw it up, she is the merciful hair angel who blesses me again with gorgeous hair! I love her!
She recommended me to use Shimmer Lights by Clairol. and it has pulled alot of the brassiness out. Thanks again Halee!

Part Seven: The Grown-Out Platinum Hair!
So here I am in the present! In all honesty I actually love the colors that are in it. When I had the darker hair, it washed me out so much due to my pale skin, but now it matches me pretty well.
Although I am in need of a touch-up I am enjoying having my roots grown out. I like the depth, but I am starting to miss the complete platinumness!

So here is what I learned:
Never EVER use a box dye if you plan on going platinum. Bleaching your hair is such a difficult process that you really should invest in getting it done by a professional.

You will use a purple shampoo. Purple shampoo's and conditioners pull out any lasting brassiness that keeps your hair from reaching the ashy blonde color. You will freak out the first time using it, but don't fret! It won't dye your hair purple (unless you overuse it).

It is expensive. This just goes to say, if you aren't interested in the up-keep of the platinum, you probably shouldn't do it.

So that's all I have for you all today!

Thank you for giving my little blog a look!

Have a great day!

Signing out!
